Lake Kachera

Lake Kachera is a lake found in the mid-Western part of Uganda. It is found in Mbarara district. it is among the less known shallow lake water bodies of Uganda. It is part of the complex system of lakes known as the Koki lakes. These koki lakes are normally separated by vast swamps Lake Kachera together with Lake Mburo form part of the Lake Victoria Satelitte lakes.[1] Lake Kachera has other forms of spelling and also in other languages as well such as: Lake Kachira and Lake Kachra.[2]

Location

Lake Kachera is located in Mbarara district in the Western part of Uganda. It is located at a latitude of -0551944 and longitude of 31094444.[3][1]

Ecology

It is known for its rich variety and diverse fish species like Singida Tilapia and Graham's Tilapia. It also has a variety of bird species too. There are rare fish species on Lake Kachera which are endemic to Lake Victoria basin and its satellite lakes. Its surprising that these unique fish species of Singida Tilapia or Grahams Tilapia are absent in Lake Victoria and Lake Kyoga.[1]
